At Make, we work with 3-axis CNC routers to process a wide range of materials. For milling work with 4 or 5 axes, we work together with our partner network.

How CNC milling and routing works
Computer Numerical Control, or CNC, means that a machine follows instructions from a computer to mill away material. A fast-spinning milling or router bit moves across the material, removing small pieces at a time. The machine moves along 3 axes: X, Y and Z.

Software
To prepare CNC files, we use Carveco and DeskProto. You work with vector, SVG or DXF files, or 3D models. These are converted into a G-code file that controls the CNC milling machine. At Make, we have a workstation where you can create and prepare your designs.

Materials
Our CNC router can cut and mill a wide range of materials, including glass, foam, plastics, wood, acrylic, plaster and furan sand. We don’t stock materials, so bring whatever you want to use. Do check with us in advance to confirm whether your material is suitable.
